BMW SuperCup, Silverstone October 2025
In preparation for the Race of Remembrance, I entered the final round of the BMW SuperCup at Silverstone in October 2025 as a guest driver for Bromley Motorsport.
What started as an opportunity to test the car resulted in THREE visits to the podium over the weekend, and the fastest lap record for this class at Silverstone.
In testing on Friday, I felt good in the car but ultimately had no idea how I compared in terms of pace with the others I would be racing against over the weekend.
That changed on Saturday morning in qualifying, when I scored pole position for race 1.
What followed was the most nervous and excited I’ve ever been for a race.
As an endurance racer, I haven’t done many standing starts. We did some practice, but I still didn’t get away from the line as well as I’d hoped. But I AM good at coming through the pack on a first lap, so I put my head down and focused on getting back in front by the time we crossed the line for the start of the third lap.
Then it was a case of staying in front, which is much harder than it sounds when you know you have someone as capable as Simon Waterfall in the car behind you. My mind wandered towards what was going to go wrong, and it was the longest eight laps of my life. I even missed the chequered flag, I was concentrating so hard on just driving.
In Parc Ferme, there were delays getting weighed, then the podium didn’t happen straight afterwards, and I kept wondering if the win would be snatched away.
I lined up on the grid in pole for race 2, but messed up the start and dropped back to 5th/6th before managing to come back through and snatch P3 on the line.
Two trophies in one day!
Race 3 was on Sunday morning, and I got a much better start this time. Simon and I had a great race for P2 and P3, but Ayden was lightning quick and took his second win of the weekend.
Another trophy! And the fastest lap of the race, which I’m told is a record for that car, on that circuit layout.
My thanks to CJ for running the car all weekend, and to Tom for some great data analysis and feedback.
